That One Time That The Amazing World of Gumball Highlighted Internet Security

Updated: Oct 3, 2022

"Befriending every fraud and bot so that their minds are sure to rot."

For those who are unaware, most contemporary cartoon's are completely random. One show that may have paved the way for this was Cartoon Network's The Amazing World of Gumball (2011-2019). Following the main character Gumball (cat) and his adopted brother and best friend Darwin (fish), there are a lot of crazy adventures.

Season six of the show features the episode "The Web" in which Gumball and Darwin find that the people (more so the things of their town since anything can be a living character) are naïve when it comes to online safety. If you don't have time to watch the full episode, take a look and listen to their music video, "#trending" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsHH64Hal_8)

It isn't often that a show, especially a kid's show, highlights topics like this. And while the episode and song are done in jest, there is relevance and truth in it. With other episodes with titles like "The Fraud," "The Scam," and "The Heist," The Amazing World of Gumball was one of a kind.
